About Winchester House
Winchester House is a spacious private members club on the banks of the Thames, a stone’s throw from Putney Bridge. With stunning river views, it’s a real hidden gem, with charm and character in abundance.
A perfect venue for weddings all year round, Winchester House is a spacious and historic building in an enchanting riverside setting.
Summer weddings can make use of the half-acre private gardens, which are perfect for team building events, drinks receptions, BBQs and street food. The private lawns are on the banks of the Thames, giving plentiful photo opportunities.
For winter weddings guests can enjoy the cosy interior of the historic house, with its spacious rooms and understated and neutral interior design. Following a full refurbishment, the flexible spaces will allow you to make the venue your own, complementing the look of each room with your own designs, décor and colour scheme.
Winchester House can accommodate both wedding receptions and civil ceremonies. There are also several churches within walking distance, and accommodation within a short walk.
The historic venue is part of events company The Concerto Group. The group comprises of 16 brands that provide event management, venues, catering and event services.
Winchester House has a rich and varied history. A motto on the building’s gates, ‘Think and Thank’, dates back to its Cromwellian links and the Putney Debates of about 1646. In the early 1650s Cromwell oversaw a somewhat puritanical Church in England; the words ‘Think and Thank’ are to be found in churches of that period. Oliver Cromwell billeted his officers at Winchester House.
