About Ship Inn

The Ship stands at the heart of the old village occupying a prominent position in the South Gloucestershire village of Alveston. The Ship Inn is a Grade II listed former coaching inn built in 1589. On summer days the garden terrace echoes with the sound of leather on willow from The Ship Field next door the home of Thornbury Cricket Club since 1871, where renowned Victorian cricketers the Grace brothers once played. Alveston is a quiet village high on the Ridgeway part of the ancient Western Trackway running from Alveston to Almondsbury one of a network of old roads linking Gloucester with the Roman port of Sea Mills. Surrounded by picturesque South Gloucestershire countryside and close to the wildlife havens of the Severn Estuary including the world-famous Slimbridge Wetland Centre. The Ship Inn with its low beamed ceilings open fires and flagstones is the perfect retreat for taylor made celebrations of all kinds. Serving delicious pub food from an extensive menu with seasonal specials, superb Sunday roasts and a range of fine wines and cask ales. The Ship welcomes guests all day every day whatever the season. Visit our historic pub and restaurant page to find out more about this venue.
