This non-religious ancient building, licensed only for non-religeous civil ceremonies is conveniently situated in the heart of Kingston upon Thames, The Lovekyn Chapel is the only remaining free-standing chantry chapel in England and dates back to 1309.
This intimate medieval building is now the most popular venue for civil ceremonies and naming ceremonies in the Royal Borough. The Registrar from Kingston Council will perform your marriage ceremony (you will need to book the Registrar through the Council).
The Chapel can seat up to 60 wedding guests comfortably and has stained glass windows and vaulted ceiling. There is also free use of our grand pianos. Or bring in your ipod & speakers or CD player and play whatever music you like! The acoustics are amazing!
There is a separate entrance and private waiting room for the bride if she doesn’t wish for the groom or guests to see her before she walks down the aisle!
A very popular option, for no extra fee whatsoever, is a champagne reception immediately after the ceremony. If the happy couple supplies the Champagne, we will serve it to the wedding guests for no extra charge and no corkage fee. They may serve whatever drinks they like – beer, wine, soft drinks etc – for free! Completely free! For a whole hour! And our staff will serve and clear up afterwards. What’s not to love!!!!!
There is a beautiful courtyard garden for photographs and drinks and, if it rains, drinks can be served inside
Our in-house Wedding Coordinator will be on hand throughout, from the initial enquiry right through to the wedding itself to co-ordinate your day for you. She will open the chapel and the car park two hours before a wedding to allow for deliveries. She will collect the bride from the wedding car and be on hand throughout to help in any way.
The chapel can be decorated with tasteful white silk flowers for free.
Parking is available for the wedding car in our school car park and we can often provide more parking spaces for guests. However the NCP Cattle market car park is a one-minute walk away.
Even though it is situated in the heart of Kingston, once inside the chapel (because the walls are so thick) the traffic cannot be heard.
We only allow one civil ceremony per day and so the ceremony is not rushed.
We are available on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year for your civil ceremony. We are also availabe on weekdays (in school holidays)
