Established in 1765 by the first Countess of Ilchester as a kitchen garden for her nearby castle, today the Gardens are filled with exotic and spectacular plants from all over the world, offering amazing backgrounds for your special photographs and video.
You and your guests will enter our private landscaped wedding garden through an exclusive wrought-iron gateway leading to a secluded lawn surrounded by lush plants, trees and flowers.
As your guests look on, take your vows in our charming gazebo, licensed for civil ceremonies.
Our new, purpose-built permanent wedding pavilion nestles amid exotic planting.
Seating up to 150 people, this light and airy space with glass-panelled walls and wide entrances allows guests to feel they are truly a part of the Gardens.
The pavilion has a permanent natural wooden floor – perfect for dancing!
Then during the long summer evenings, you and your guests will have exclusive access to wander at will through the entire Subtropical Gardens.
Situated on the south coast approximately eight miles from the coastal towns of Weymouth and Bridport, our Subtropical Gardens are situated in the quaint historic village of Abbotsbury.
Just three hours by road from London, 50 miles from the M5 motorway, and 10 miles from the nearest mainline rail stations in Weymouth and Dorchester, the Gardens are another world, but so easy to reach.
If you or your guests wish to stay in the area for longer, Luxury Dorset Cottages have five beautiful 5-star cottages, four within a stone’s throw of the Subtropical Gardens.
