The Story

About Boxley Abbey A stunning Grade 1 listed stone hospitium available for wedding receptions and functions.

Boxley Abbey offers a truly enchanting setting for wedding receptions and special events, set within a stunning Grade 1 listed stone hospitium in Maidstone, United Kingdom. As one of the longest surviving monastic buildings in the country, this historic venue measures nearly 200 feet in length and features a remarkable roof structure dating from 1387, with soaring scissor trusses that create an atmospheric space when illuminated. The main function room, located at the east end of the hospitium, measures approximately 80 by 30 feet and comfortably accommodates up to 150 guests, while also providing an intimate setting for smaller gatherings.

Nestled within the scenic North Downs area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to Junction 6 of the M20, Boxley Abbey boasts beautiful gardens amongst the monastic ruins, ideal for wedding photography by prior arrangement. The venue is perfectly suited to couples who wish to take a hands-on approach, as it is offered on an exclusive use basis for three days before and two days after your event, allowing plenty of time for setting up and clearing away. Hirers are free to choose their own caterer and organise essential infrastructure such as catering, trailer toilets, generator, and lighting, with supplier recommendations available from the owners.

As a Scheduled Ancient Monument, Boxley Abbey does not have a ceremony licence, making it an ideal choice for those planning a reception following a church or registry office wedding, or for couples who want a completely bespoke celebration. Parking is provided in an adjacent field, with access via a field track, and events are restricted to May through September, ending by 11pm with music allowed up to 95 decibels. Prices start from £2,500, with good availability in the spring and summer months. The venue's historic charm and flexibility make it a truly magical and individual setting for your special day.
