The Story
Standing proudly on the Cornish headland, Pendennis Castle overlooks the Falmouth skyline.
Pendennis Castle stands proudly on the Cornish headland, overlooking the Falmouth skyline. This impressive fortress, built during the reign of King Henry VIII in the 1540s, boasts a commanding position almost entirely surrounded by sea and remained in use until 1956. Today, its outstanding sea views create a stunning backdrop for weddings, with guests entering the grounds over the bridge and through the castle's large arched gate for a grand arrival. For a unique touch, the historic gun crew can fire two of the castle’s big guns to mark the celebrations.
Couples can exchange vows in the beautiful round Castle Keep, where soft lighting and ancient granite walls set a tranquil and romantic atmosphere. The neutral décor offers flexibility, whether you prefer simple candlelight or vibrant flowers, while the Keep’s acoustics make both live and recorded music sound unforgettable. After the ceremony, newlyweds can lead guests into the Chemise, a grassy circle encircling the Castle Keep, with ramparts providing shelter from sea breezes as everyone enjoys panoramic views.
For more intimate weddings, the Melvill Room inside the Royal Artillery Barracks offers a bright space with amazing sea views. Dining takes place in the newly refurbished Killgrew Room, comfortably accommodating 120 guests for dinner before an evening of dancing. For larger celebrations, a marquee can be set up in the grounds to capture the castle’s spectacular setting.
