Chalk Farm Hotel is a charming small hotel housed in a historic 17th-century building, nestled in Old Willingdon Village just over two miles from Eastbourne town centre. The village itself revolves around the focal point of St. Mary's Church and Chalk Farm, with a rich heritage stretching back to Saxon times when the surrounding fields were used for primitive farming.
The site has a fascinating past. It once housed a Priory, said to have connections with the Benedictine Abbey of Grestein near Honfleur in France. The land was formerly owned by Robert de Norton, the 1st Norman Lord of Pevensey and half-brother to William the Conqueror. Around 1610, a farmhouse was constructed from the remains of the Priory chapel—this building now houses The Inglenook Restaurant. A new farmhouse was built approximately 50 metres north around 1920, whilst the original farmhouse was converted into the hotel that stands today.
With its deep historical roots and intimate character, Chalk Farm Hotel offers a uniquely atmospheric setting steeped in centuries of English heritage.
