Highdown Vineyard

Highdown Vineyard is owned by Paul and Aly Englefield, who began their wine venture in 2010 and relocated with their family that spring. After careers in film and television, Aly discovered a passion for viticulture whilst helping with harvest at Greyfriars Vineyard on the North Downs. She went on to study at Plumpton Agricultural College, completing courses in the Principles of Vineyard Management and Winemaking, followed by a BSc in Viticulture & Oenology and WSET qualifications up to Diploma level.

Aly has gained hands-on experience at several respected south-east vineyards, including Jenkyn's Place, known for award-winning sparkling wines, and Laverstoke Park, a biodynamic vineyard. Paul, formerly a cinematographer, has embraced vineyard life with enthusiasm. Over recent years he has mastered trellis repair, pruning, spraying and mowing, developing particular expertise in maintaining the vineyard's beloved old Ferguson tractor.
