Once home to the Romantic poet Lord Byron, Newstead Abbey is a medieval masterpiece built in the 12th century, steeped in history and Gothic charm. Set within 10 acres of stunning formal gardens with lakes and cascades, this hidden gem offers couples a unique and utterly beautiful location to marry year-round.
The Abbey's cloisters, with their Gothic arches and leaded stained glass windows, create an ideal aisle leading to the Orangery, where a large crystal chandelier and majestic windows frame views of the formal gardens. The venue is licensed for civil ceremonies in the Orangery, whilst the intimate St Mary's Chapel offers a beautiful space for wedding blessings and services.
Guests can enjoy refreshments in the Garden Room and French garden, whilst the wedding breakfast takes place in the West Front Suite—a contemporary space with historic character providing a neutral backdrop for your own styling. The Great Hall features sweeping staircases, oak-beamed walls and magnificent fireplaces. The Abbey's breathtaking grounds offer photographic opportunities throughout, including a quintessentially English rose garden, historic Japanese garden and impressive fern collection, plus glimpses of the resident friendly peacocks. The Gardeners Cottage is also available to hire.
